NCEDCloud is down across North Carolina. That means that students, teachers, parents, and all other users cannot currently access Canvas, PowerSchool or any other NCEDCloud app. We will update you when this has been resolved,” the post said.
School officials said parents and students will be notified once the statewide issue is resolved and students can log into lessons.
“We even heard of some students logging on at 6 a.m. this morning, and then things slowed to a crawl. We learned later that it was a statewide glitch,” Guilford County Schools Superintendent Sharon Contreras said.
Public Schools of North Carolina released this statement after the issue had been resolved:
“The NC Department of Public Instruction received reports this morning that teachers and students had problems logging in to NCEdCloud. The vendor-provider of the NCEdCloud Service confirmed that the product experienced a degradation in service this morning. The vendor will explain the root cause once it has identified the source. In the meantime, the service is now working.
UPDATE: Remote Learning Sites Accessible After Glitch Fixed in Sign-In Portal
The NC Department of Public Instruction received reports this morning that teachers and students were having problems logging in to NCEdCloud. The vendor-provider of the NCEdCloud Service confirmed that the product experienced a degradation in service this morning. The vendor will explain the root cause once it has identified the source. In the meantime, the service is now working.
NCEdCloud is the portal to other Home Base resources, including PowerSchool, Canvas, NCEES, ImagineMath, Learning.com, and Schoolnet. The issue was not with those products.

NCEdCloud Badges and Logins for PK-5 Students
The NCEdCloud IAM Service team has been offering Badges (QR Codes) as an alternate login method for younger students since August 2019. We also provided Pictographs then, but very few PSUs chose this option.
Based on feedback from PSUs across the state, we are announcing two significant changes to the PreK-5 Alternate Authentication feature in NCEdCloud beginning on December 18, 2023:
Badges (QR Codes) will now be enabled as an option for ALL students in the NCEdCloud IAM Service in PreK-5 (grades -3 through 5 in the Student System). This means that teachers and staff with appropriate privileged roles in the NCEdCloud IAM Service can print badges for these students, which can be used in place of their username/password when logging in.
We will no longer offer Pictograph logins due to lack of use.
Note: Once this change is implemented, there will be no immediate impact on your students. If you choose to take advantage of using Badges, you will be able to print them for any or all students in grades -3 through 5. Otherwise, students will continue to log in as they always have. If your PSU has opted-in to using an “Alias ID” (email address in most cases), that option for username has not changed.
If your PSU does not want the “Badges” feature available for some or all of your PK-5 students and would like to opt out, you must submit the PreK-5 Badges Opt-Out form (see the block to the right). Any PSU Technology Director or Administrator with an NCEdCloud Privileged Role of LEA Administrator or LEA Data Auditor can submit this Opt-Out Request form.
